How do I transfer photos from my iPhone 12 Pro to my Mac?

When I transfer my photos from iphone 12 pro to my apple laptop via airdrop, they do not open and show size of 0kb in download folder. Other files like pdf can be opened sent through airdrop. What can be the problem and how can I resolve it?
