Hello Elia,

FYI - MS Word Version 16.37 is the latest version like you said. Did it start using high CPU with the same document recently or has it always been the case with your document of 400 pages? Have you tried working with a 10 page or less document and then does it operate normally? I use the entire Office 365 suite however do not have issues with any of the apps. I am however using macOS Catalina. Do you use OneDrive to sync documents across multiple devices by any chance? OneDrive, at times, has issues managing large documents and can tie up itself and the CPU as it manages changes and uploads.

Things to Try-

1. Try a small document and see if the issue continues. If that works then we know it is related to the large document.
2. If you have OneDrive then close the app if it is running in the background. If it is then you should see its icon on the Menu Bar. See if closing OneDrive helps.
3. If MS Word runs high on CPU no matter what the document then either delete and reinstall it OR update your MacOS.
