brand new iPad - adapter doesn't work

Is there something I'm not understanding about the adapter? It looks as if I should be adding some sort of miniature battery to it between the prongs. The iPad is straight out of the box and doesn't charge when I connect the supplied lighting cable to the supplied adapter plug, but does charge when I use my iPhone adapter.

You’re missing the Fuse Carrier (and fuse) from the UK “duck head” adapter - this providing the connection between the wall 13A socket and the Power Adapter.

The “duck head” just slides-off the main Power Adapter body - and is designed to be easily swapped. As illustrated and oriented on this page, the “duck head” slides to the right.

As is, do not connect to power - and immediately contact Apple Support or the retailer from where it was purchased.
