Can't Delete Custom Ringtones (Tones) from iPhone through iTunes
Now that iTunes has removed the normal Ringtones section of the library, the way you add Ringtones to your IOS device is by simply dragging and dropping and dropping the proper m4r extension ringtones to the "Tones" folder of your connected device right from their file explorer location (or on Windows, copy from file explorer and paste into the tones folder from the edit menu).
They get added to the list and show up on your device.
But you cant remove them. Clicking the 3 dots next to the custom added ringtones has a "Delete" option, but it does nothing. Still shows on the list in the devices tones section like you didn't click anything and still shows on the phone.
Now you Can remove them from the phone by going to the ringtone selection section in the ios devices settings and left swiping on the ringtone and clicking delete (only works for custom added ones) and its gone!
BUT, it remains in the iTunes list for that device! Delete still doesn't work but now if you try to play it or check its info through the 3 dot menu next to it, an exclamation point icon will appear next to the Tone, im assuming letting you know the file doesn't actually exist anymore. But it still remains there and the files info still does open and show the correct information even though its not there.
Even on a fresh iTunes install on another PC, after logging in and connecting my phone it will still show the removed ringtones in the devices Tones list, still not removable from the itunes list.
Their not on the phone anymore and not wasting space in your itunes library or anything so in the end it doesn't seem like a big deal, but it definitely seems like something is not working as intended after the normal Tones support in itunes was removed.
Or maybe it's intentional that your tones can't be removed from the device through itunes (even though there is a delete option)? Where is this previous list even saved? On the device, or maybe apple music is keeping them online like the rest of my itunes catalog since i have a subscription? I checked with iMazing and there was only 2 ringtones in the ringtones folder (out of the 4 showing in itunes, 2 current and 2 removed through IOS) so their not still there but hidden through IOS or anything. Its just weird.
I'm betting they won't show after a transfer to a new device or maybe even a restore from backup on this device (its brand new as is though) but there is no point in doing that specifically for this since it's not like they show in the phone or in the main itunes library screens, just the devices tones folder when connected like a history of what was added and removed (the exclamation point entries) and it would just happen again if you want to change anything you added.
Anyone experience this recently or have any input?
