Software Update keeps prompting me to install an update for a printer that my parents got rid of more than five years ago! I went into the Library files and deleted every reference to this printer that I could find. I even manually removed it from the .plist file. But the Software Update prompt keeps coming back -- how do I make it stop?

Are there any other user accounts on the Mac? Make sure they don't have it listed. I think printers are system-wide, though.

No, it isn't listed under Printers & Scanners, and it isn't in any of my user accounts.
Oops, sorry - you were right. The printer was shown in the sidebar by an IP address only, and I overlooked the detailed description. Thanks for your reply.
