iphone Other memory hog plus free memory will not update

2 queries. first, i've read previous answers regarding Other hogging memory in iphone (se 13.4.1 in my case) but the most recent is 5 years ago and i wonder if anything has changed. one recommendation was to restore my iphone, but i talked to apple support today and they said that won't help anything. other suggestions were 3rd party software but people warn that this approach can cause trouble. Any current tips on how to reduce the memory tied up in Other?

second question, i deleted 2.8G of music out of 6.9G to free up memory but my iphone still says i have 6.9G of music and no free memory left. itunes indicates that the music files i deleted are in fact gone. i tried turning the phone off and back on twice. no change. any suggestions on getting my phone to update its memory status and give me back 2.8G of free memory?

many thanks to anyone who helps. stay safe.

Restarting the phone should address both issues. Just make sure you follow the instructions. If it doesn’t help, yes, the next step is to restore the phone from a recent backup.

FYI,

“Other” is not just junk, but all storage not otherwise included in the colored categories. It may, for example, include misc. files no longer in use, caches, previously streamed videos and music, etc. The easiest way of clearing Other is to Restart your device.

You should also review and clear unused apps and data via: Settings > General > iPhone Storage and read the article linked below.

thank you for your help. i have restarted the phone several times to no avail at all, so i guess the next step is to restore. i have also deleted a number of apps and accompanying documents/data but all the apps and all their docs/data on my phone don't even add up to 300M, so even if i got rid of them all (except for music) it would hardly help.

stay safe and healthy.
