External camera laggy - low frame rate

Same here. Also tried using the LG utility to reset the screen to factory defaults.

Submitted bug report.

I hope this is an easy software fix as I own two of those LG 5K displays (penultimate models).

I just reported the exact same issue as well.

2020 MacBook Pro, laggy camera on External LG UltraFine 5K, my replaced Mid-2017 MacBook Pro worked fine. Noticed on Zoom, GoToMeeting and Teams, all the same.

I also had a weird color shift going on...warm to cool to warm, etc... Resetting NVRAM and PMC seemed to clear that up though.

Getting the same issue after upgrading to a 2020 MBP 13", top of the line. I'm using the LG 4k monitor though, but I suspect since it is a MacOS software problem it's the same thing going on behind the scenes.

I have the most current 13 inch macbook pro with 4 ports connected to the most current model LG Ultrafine 5k monitor. When I use Facetime ot Zoom and switch to the LG monitors camera it is very laggy. I am unable to use. Any update on on this?

I feel the more Apple receives notices of this issue it will be fixed. Everyone spread the word the get Apple on it. Seems to be a software patch needed of some sort. It is a Apple collaberated/suggested monitor..not sure how Apple missed this issue, but I am sure they are already on it.

bkorth nice idea but the software does not seem to work, at least with my MBP13-2020. It does not register that I am connected to my iPhone, either with or without the LG5K connected - though you can see my iPhone is connected.

I probably wasn't clear that you need to download both the iOS app and the Mac OS app. Open apps on computer and iPhone and should work. Just got don't using it for a call. Yes, need a way to hold it and tripod or a mount works great. Good luck!

Strange UX - there is no mention of the need for an iOS companion on their web site landing page. You can find it buried in the 'downloads' page. And - once the connection fails, there is no onboarding or hints to suggest that your iOS version is not installed.

Sorry to complain - I'm a UX designer and this kind of stuff makes me apoplectic.

In addition to the camera of the Ultrafine 5K being extremely laggy on my MBP 2020, I have now problems where the USB devices that are connected to the Ultrafine are often not recognized by my Mac. Replugging the monitor a few times fixes it, but also sometimes leads to a total system crash... Does anybody else have this problem?

Is anyone having this issue with the most recent version of the LG 5k? The 27MD5KL model?

I'm really interested because I recently purchased this model and was planning on getting a new macbook in the near future - my window for return is closing so i need to know what to do. Any help / advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

J Michael - doing the same and it "works", but it's also total BS to be dealing with on a $3k MBP using their recommended $1300 monitor. Support is impossible, so clueless. I asked if they had this logged as a known issue, and rep told me "they don't have a database like that". I'm sure they do, but just don't trust tier 1 support reps enough to let them see it. I'll be downgrading to my old MBP as soon as repair is done, and returning this one. Last support rep said it must just be my machine because Apple has really good QA people. I pointed out this thread, and it was like watching a computer glitch - that Apple might have a bug didn't fit his belief system.

As a UX designer, I don't have time to be righteous, or to be right. I have to get the job done and for that, I have to find solutions. I too considered returning my MBP but in the end the advantages of keeping it outweighed those of returning it - those are not relevant to this discussion, however.

Just to confirm - is the issue only present when using the webcam? Or is it glitchy in general with the 2020 Macbook?

Do you think this is a hardware issue or a software issue which can easily be resolved?

I only have a week left to return the LG 5K and have been on the fence about it the whole time. My plan is to buy a new Macbook at some point in the next year so if it wont be compatible that would suck. Yes it's the best screen I've tried (and i've tried a bunch) but there are uniformity issues with a white screen (un-eveness which others also report) and of course the design is ugly - but the biggest hurdle is that it is very old and very $$$. the current imac screens are wider Gamut and better contrast. But all that being said its the best screen i've found so far..... Ugh.... decisions decisions...

That’s interesting. My C920 works without any issues when hooked into the monitor, as do any peripherals connected to the external ports which hang off the USB 3.0 hub, it’s only the camera and microphone wired to the internal USB 2.0 hub which have issues.
