How do I attach an extension # to a phone number in a contact?

Start entering the contact’s number.
Then tap the “+*#” in the lower left to add the extension. “Pause” waits a very brief time (2 seconds?) for the ringing to complete. “Wait” waits longer (perhaps until you touch the keypad). Two or three pauses is a good starting point.
