CATERR Kernel Panic on Brand New Mac Mini

Hello all,

Just wanted to add a voice to the existing chorus of voices about the kernel panic issue in 10.15.4.

I have a brand new – out of the box several hours ago – Mac Mini 3.2, connected via USB-C to Display Port dongle to a 30" Apple Cinema Display (still the best!).

NO non-Apple software installed! It's brand new and I'm still migrating things. Installing Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro onto a fresh install are not going to cause this issue. This is 1000000% not a software issue as has been suggested by some.

Also an eGPU (Akitio Node with Vega 56). Lovely setup.

The CATERR panic issue in my case seems to arise out of the external display and the propensity for everything to want to sleep. My hopeful solution, for now, is to just keep everything from sleeping. I suppose I'll have to shut down the machine. I'll report back if the issue continues.

Please Apple, 25+ year user of your products here. Please fix this issue! This OS is a disaster!

All over these forums, as well as in other forums around the net.

Come on now. I may not be an IT professional, but I've had probably 20 Macs and have been with every iteration of OS X, OS 9, and OS 8. I've never seen one of the new systems cause a kernel panic out of the box on a brand new machine with no other software installed. Not even the earliest versions of OS X.
