Macbook Pro 2012 will not support Samsung 850 Evo SSD. Help!!!

My mid 2012 macbook pro wont support new samsung ssd.

Spoke to apple on the phone and they said because smart status says 'not supported' it will not partition correctly.

However when I click info on the Hardrive it says its verified. See attached photo.

Can anyone help or recommend my next move. Currently waiting response from manufacture also.

Your device is showing as "Master Boot Record". It needs to be GUID Partition Map to be bootable for recent versions of MacOS, I think later than 10.6.8, possibly for ANY Intel-based Mac.

ERASE again and deliberately choose GUID partition Map.

if not available, be sure you are ERASE-ing the entire DEVICE, by its immutable device-name, and not just the Volume.

It looks like you are making great progress, but not quite there yet.

If you have an external adapter or "toaster" or enclosure, put the drive in that and get it completely ready-to-go. If your ONLY issue is when you place it inside your macBook, you need to replace the drive cable.

These are a known weakness in this series MacBook Pro, and using a faster drive brings out the worst in them.

Thanks again pal,

So if I was to plug it into an external adapter, this would mean the internal hardrive would be empty, would I need to plug my previous one in ?

Then if this was successful after re-formatting my new one SSD , would I still need to get my internal drive adapter replaced ?

If so, would I be better seeking someone professional to fix?

Any suggestions on the best external adapter? Had a quick look on amazon and theres loads, dont know if theres a difference in quality.

Sorry for all questions, I'm no genius when it comes to tech, especially apple/mac.

Thanks!!

If you have an external enclosure, after you are done here you could use to hold a backup drive. Having a backup is always good practice.

The other related type is referred to as a "toaster". Typically has exposed slots and for one or sometimes two drives, and gravity holds them in place like slices of toast instead of inside an enclosure. Ambient air circulation provides the cooling instead of the enclosure.

The last of the possibilities as a simple (and cheap) adapter. It makes no pretense of being neat-- cables will be draped across your bench while using it. These can be really simple. Some (typically if the offer only USB-2) are a bit on the slow side, but they work fine anyway.

Your Mac can do anything and everything from an external drive.there is no "special" drive, not even the Internal.

Macs after 2011 should have Internet Recovery in their ROM. That means you do not need a drive installed ANYWHERE to boot up, get software over the internet, and perform certain tasks such as run diagnostics, repair a drive, or install MacOS.

It creates two dozen RAM disks to hold its temporary work items, so a working drive is not needed. A simple and reliable Internet connection is required.
