How do you stop iCloud from backing up your books?

My friends airdropped some textbooks for school tome and once I stopped opening them for a while, they would be backed up on iCloud and I have to download them again and again. You have to understand that I’m using mobile data and it is quite expensive to re-download each textbooks that would use up gigabytes of my data. Hope to find help ASAP. Thank you!
