iPhone XR only vibrates occasionally

My iPhone XR is turned to vibrate mode but my vibration only works at the moment occasionally or sporadically.

sometimes my notifications will vibrate and then other times it will go hours without them vibrating at all.

its really frustrating as I like my phone to vibrate but my phone seems to be only doing this every so often?

has anyone else had similar troubles and if so did you find a solution?

I've tried turning my iPhone off and on several times but to no avail.

many thanks

Hey there Louis_Reynolds,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re experiencing some issues with your iPhone not vibrating when expected. I’ll be happy to help with this.

It looks like the settings on your iPhone are correct for this and restarting is a good step to take. If you haven’t already, make sure your iPhone is up to date as well:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the vibrate function still isn’t working when expected, back up your iPhone and reinstall iOS using the steps from these links:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue continues, restore your iPhone to factory settings and test while in this state. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, so be sure to have those handy:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

If the issue is resolved in factory settings, restore your backup and test once more:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

Regards.

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your response.

I have updated my iPhone's software and this morning my notifications were vibrating.

However, they appear to have stopped vibrating again. Like I said sometimes they will vibrate others it will go hours without vibrating!

Really strange, I've backed everything up but that hasn't seemed to have solved the problem.

Any more advice would be great!

Thanks,

Louis

Hey Louis_Reynolds,

Thanks for providing that info. So the issue went away for a bit after updating but returned. Have you had a chance to test this in factory settings yet? If not, back up your iPhone and restore it to factory settings using the steps from the links in the above post. Keep your iPhone in the factory state while testing. You can add your iCloud and other accounts to sync your contacts, photos, and other data, just don’t restore from a backup until you’ve had the chance to test for about 48 hours.

If the issue doesn’t return, you can restore your backup and if the issue returns, you may need to keep your iPhone in factory settings as there may be something in the backup causing this.

Take care.

Hey Sarah,

thanks for you response.

so I have also reset my iPhone completely now and although not as frequent the problem is still persisting.

i.e every now and again the vibrate appears to turn itself off.

it makes me think maybe something is stopping the motor or something?

in normal times I’d just pop down to my local apple store but obviously this isn’t possible at the moment.

Do you have any other ideas what this could be?

kind regards,

Louis
