Messages and strange anomaly

I have this weird issue happening in Messages. I will type in a message like "Hey, do you have time for a quick chat about the edits?"

I hit enter. It delivers.

Then say an hour or so later I come back to type another message but in the input box part of the message I already sent is sitting there as if I stopped mid sentence even though the full message had already been sent and shows in the window.

Is this some weird setting? A 'feature'. Its kind of annoying because you have to first select it and delete it so you can type in a new message.

Thanks.

Hey there Coriolanus,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re experiencing a strange issue with Messages showing half of your response that has already been sent in the area where you type. I’ll be happy to help with this.

If you haven’t already, boot your Mac into safe mode and see if the issue continues there:

How to use safe mode on your Mac

If it doesn’t happen in safe mode, restart your Mac as normal and see if the issue is resolved. Many times, booting into safe mode can resolve an issue like this.

If it does return, try these solutions:

Thanks for the tips. None of them have worked although I did not try the new account solution. But I just reinstalled OS about three weeks ago and it was a fresh install without copying my info over. This issue was happening before the reinstall and still after it as well.

It's only a weird minor annoyance so I'll tinker and see if I can figure out if it's something else.
