2020 info on scanning with Epson V37 to imac photos

The photos app appears to be very changeable. When I first began using the Epson v37 scanner a couple of weeks ago all went well. Now I can't get the Epson to recognise the photos.app and I can't import directly from the scanner??? Also I have found there is a bug of some sort in the smart album which means that the 'album... is not... any' feature is no longer doing its job.
