Copy movies via Home Sharing does not work anymore - Error 5504

As describes here:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251192232

When I try to copy media from my Windows 10 iTunes to my macOS Catalina MBP I get the error "The selected files could not be copied from iTunes Library because an error occurred (5504)".

If I try to copy files from my MacBook to the Windows iTunes installation, iTunes on Windows bails out with "The selected files could not be copied from iTunes Library because this machine is not a member of the Home Sharing for the Apple ID 'my Apple ID'". And after this message Home Sharing got disabled.

I tried restarting all devices, disabled Home Sharing on all devices, wait and re-enable it. Signing out of iCloud and back in again does not help either.

Interesting though is that I'm able to stream the same files that fail above using Home Sharing. Just copying them from one machine to anther fails.

As everything worked perfectly a few days ago and I have not changed anything in my setup, I'm completely confused why this fails now. Anyone has an idea how to fix this?

I just spent over 90 minutes myself and am in the same situation - they are escalating this to engineering. The woman on the phone told me that if people in the support communities do not report issues to Apple themselves, it is unlikely that anyone at support will know about it, so please do report the issue if you have not. They had me run diagnostic tests and submit screenshots of the error message.

I just spent the last 90 minutes on a call with Apple support for this identical issue. They were not able to resolve it and are escalating it to engineering. As far as I can tell the problem started after installing the new Windows iTunes upgrade on Friday. I can’t use the home sharing “import” file feature in either iTunes for Windows or Music for Mac OS X.

I have the same problem. Trying to share files between three macs all running the latest macos Mojave. My apple TV 4 works fine with the itunes library, but it is not possible to copy a file from one itunes-library to another. There is shown an error window which says something like: "This Computer is not authorised for home sharing". After this message the mac which tried to import a file is kicked out of home sharing. You have to manually activate home sharing for this mac again.

The error accured since yesterday, it still worked two days ago. I tested this with three macs. I restarted my router, restarted all macs, nothing works. It seems to me that itunes can not contact/reach an apple server to verify the apple ID.

I also have the same problem. My Home Sharing was working up until just this weekend when I applied the latest iTunes update to ver. 12.10.7.3 on one of the Window 10 PC on Friday 5/22/2020 and after that PC is the one that is having the issue with the error message "The selected files could not be copied from "" because this machine is a not member of the Home Share for this Apple ID"". It seems every time I try to re-connect the PC to the Home Share and then try to import the couple files to sync, that is when the message pops up and then I notice the PC with the latest version of iTunes disconnects from Home Share again. I have even downgraded iTunes and that now doesn’t seem to work. I thought it was the latest update of iTunes because of the timing since I use Home Sharing on a regular basis to sync libraries so I know when it last worked for me was 05/16/2020 was my last sync.

Hi, I got this 5504 error also when sharing music from Windows 10 pc to Mac. It came after updating ITunes 12.10.7 and I tried to solve this problem by returning ITunes 12.10.6 but it didn't help.....same error every day.

Suprise! Today syncronation started at once and everything works fine…….maybe someone has done something?

I'm having this exact same issue. My MacBook Pro operating on Catalina gets the 5504 error, and my PC gets kicked off the Home Sharing connection if I try to import from the MacBook. Can stream content between each machine just fine. In the past I was able to import without issue across both machines. I considered it might be the powerline adapters I'm using now, but I connected both machines to the modem via ethernet to ensure they're sharing the exact same network in the house--same issues.

Extremely frustrating problem.

Same problem here as of Thursday night - can stream itunes music between two macs but cannot import from one to the other in either direction with error similar to "The selected files could not be copied from iTunes Library because this machine is not a member of the Home Sharing for the Apple ID 'my Apple ID'". It has always worked before. OS's are High Sierra and Mojave. Come on Apple sort it out

I am having the exact same problem. This is happening to me randomly. I have not changed any settings. Everything worked fine literally days ago. I called Apple and they don't know what the problem is. I am so glad to be seeing other people talking about the same issue. Let's all report it to Apple so they can become more aware of it. The last year has been the most problematic of years for Apple products. My phone and my iTunes library have both been constantly acting strange.
