SD Card Reader Stops Functioning in Older iMacs

Two years later, and still no solution? Older iMacs SD card reader won't mount cards without restarting? Reader disappears from Disc Utility and the Finder list of devices. Helloooo.... (Empty echoing sound.) Anybody got this? Sick of all the restarting.

SD card readers broken I maintain a lab of 19 iMac 27" computers (18,3 2017 models) running macOS 12.5 (having been updated over the years). The SD card readers on over half of them have stopped working. I have not found any solutions yet, and it seems wrong that these simple devices should malfunction this way. Web search reveals this to be a fairly common problem. Does Apple have any recommendations?

2017 iMac after update to Monterey from Catalina internal SD card reader not working. Hi, I have updated my 2017 iMac from Catalina to Monterey 12.3.1 and the internal SD Card slot has stopped working. SD cards are not visible in the Disk Utility. I hope there is a way to solve this as I have other things connected to my iMac and there is no more extra slots available. Thanks!

card reader iMac 21.5 late 2015 not working My card reader will not recognize any SDC I insert. The same SDC's are readable/writeable using an external usb card reader. I have confirmed System Preferences as suggested in several posts and by Apple to display the SDC's in Finder and on the Desktop. Disk Utility reports the SDC as MBR, formatted with Fat32 when read from the external card reader attached by usb. My macOS is Monterey 12.4.

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
