Macbook Air 2017. Using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor to send AV to 28 inch 4K monitor. It's only sending 1920x1080. What am I doing wrong?

If you have a good working cable and adapter then you are not anything wrong but may be overlooking the setting in System Preferences.

  1. Check the settings on your monitor and ensure that it is set to the right input port and resolution.
  2. On your MacBook Air, Open System Preferences ➔ Displays and then click on Scaled to see whether higher resolution(s) is available and pick that.
