SDXC card opens in Photos not Finder upon insertion

Since January 2020 my then new trailcam's SanDisk card opened in Finder upon its insertion in my MacBook's SDXC slot. The jpeg photos in the DCIM file would then open in Preview upon their selection.

About a month ago, after a sequence of events I can't reconstruct, the card started automatically opening in Photos upon insertion, which doesn't work for me. I have to leave Photos and open Finder to do what I need to do.

I've looked high and low for a way to change the default app in which the SanDisk card opens, but can find nothing to get it to revert to opening in Finder.

For what it's worth the default open-in app for jpegs is still Preview.

Hello rprescot,

I see that you're having an issue about where your SD card is opening. I can understand your concern, and I'd be happy to look into this with you.

You mentioned that this just started about a month ago. Let's have you create a test user on your Mac and then test to see if the issue persists.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

If the issue remains in another user account, respond back with some more details. Did you make any recent changes to your Mac? Have you updated the software or install a new application?

The more information that you can provide, the easier it will be to get you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply, Joseph.

I followed your advice and the disk opened in Finder immediately under a test user account. I switched back to my real account, reinserted the disk, and it opened in Photos. Somewhere along the line I inadvertently changed a setting in my user profile, presumably.

Then only thing I can think of that might be associated with this is I somehow got photos from the disk (as displayed in Finder) into Photos, and it was only after doing this that the problem started happening. (I forget how I managed to put them in Photos). It's as if once Photos had "contact" with the SanDisk, it took over from Finder for all future disk insertions

Other than that, I have made no changes or done any updates to anything.
