Questionable reboot request for payment

I received an email today requesting I reboot my payment information, but I just received confirmation/payment receipt yesterday so I questioned the validity of this email stating I could possibly be cut off and lose iCloud storage if I failed to update my payment information. It had a case number:

****

Please advise. Thank you.

Michael

Hi, Michael,

I see you received an email regarding iCloud that you are a bit weary of. I'd be happy to help!

From what you've described, it sounds like you were sent a phishing email, whereby someone is attempting to gain access to your personal information (in this instance, your Apple ID username and password, and potentially credit card information). In most cases, Apple will not email you if there are issues with your Apple ID or iCloud, but you'll instead get a notification when you try to sign into an Apple service.

You can get more information on phishing and scam emails here: Recognize and avoid phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support, learn how to identify legitimate Apple emails here: Identify legitimate emails from the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support, and should forward the email you received (if you still have it) to reportphishing@apple.com.

If you provided any information in response to the email, go to the Apple ID website directly to sign in and change your password, payment information, or any other personal info you may have provided: Manage your Apple ID - Apple.

Cheers!
