Can't Get QuickTime to Trim

I have an intermittent problem.

I am recording my PowerPoint slides with voice over for video lectures for my students using my older MacBook Air (2014) running MacOS Catalina 10.15.4, using QuickTime Player, version 10.5.

When I finish a recording, I go back and trim the end of the recording where I am closing the PowerPoint slide show presentation.

I do this through the Trim tool under Edit>Trim. I have had no trouble trimming the video when the trim tool works.

About half the time, despite clicking on Trim in the edit menu, or using the "Command"-T keystroke, I cannot get the trim bar to open. I can save, close out of QuickTime and come back and I might be able to get the Trim bar to open or I might not.

Any ideas why it sometime opens up and other times will not respond?

The trim button is active (black) and not greyed out but still will not open the trim bar.

I see from the video you have shared it shows the issue with QuickTime player, at this point I would like to refer you to Contact Support to be able to communicate personally with QuickTime player advisor, the can walk you through troubleshooting steps with your device and your application.

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Community! I see you are having issues with the trimming tool in Microsoft Power Point, it is an important part of your daily usage of the application and work.

Since the issue you are having is very specific to a feature in one of Microsoft products I would recommend contacting their support service and see if they have feedback regarding this issue, Microsoft Support.

The issue that I am having is not an issue with PowerPoint. The issue is with the QuickTime Player. I cannot use the trim ribbon intermittently in QuickTime Player. I am making a screen recording in QuickTime Player and the trim ribbon will not come up. What is on the screen at the time should be of no consequence.

I have a video showing what I am trying to do and you can see that it has nothing to do with PowerPoint, and everything to do with QuickTime Player.
