Help! Macbook air camera driver file removed from registry

Years ago, circa os10.5, we followed some ultra-paranoid parent blog instructions to delete the camera driver/detection file from the root registry on our daughter's Mid-2012 MacBook Air 11". It worked, but we were dummies for not just creating a backup file, and now in COVID-19, we need that camera working, but don't have the driver to activate what should be a very low mileage camera! Classic. Does anyone know the file I'm talking about, and where might find it? I think the path might have been: /System/Library/QuickTime ...and file might have been: "QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component" ...it's running os10.11, or 10.12 now, maybe 10.13..if that matters.

The easiest way to do this might be to backup your Mac for safety, then reinstall macOS.

In theory a reinstall of macOS should not erase your user data unless you tell it to reformat the drive during installation, but it's always safer to have a backup.
