Screensaver starts while fullscreen video is playing

Hi All,

I've been having this problem with my screensaver for a while now - it didn't start until I updated to Catalina, but I can't recall if it started on day one or if it was one of the later updates. My screensaver (a normal built-in macOS screensaver, not a third-party app) ignores full-screen video and starts at the set time. It didn't used to start if I was watching video. This happens on Netflix and YouTube - both sites that used to play nice with the screensaver.

Has anyone else had this issue? I'm running the latest version of Catalina (10.15.5) on a 2019 iMac 27". Any ideas?

Many thanks,

TG.

Hello TurtleGerald.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. If I'm understanding correctly, the screensaver on your Mac auto starts, while you are actively watching video or movies. I will be glad to assist. I would recommend an SMC reset to see if that helps:

If the issue persists, start up in safe mode and test:

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
