“Log in from the paired iPhone” coming up on Facebook Messenger app on Apple Watch series 4

Hi there,

I’ve never had this issue before, but when I tried to open the Messenger app today a message came up saying I have to log on from the paired iPhone. If someone messages me on messenger, the notification still comes up on the watch but I can’t actually open the app on the watch. Ive tried restarting the phone and watch, uninstalling and reinstalling the messenger app on the phone and watch and turning Bluetooth on and off on the watch and phone. None of these methods worked. The phone is updated to the latest iOS and the watch is on the latest WatchOS.

Someone Please Help!

Hi Guys,

I had the same problem with my series 5 yesterday.

I did remove messenger from IPhone first,

Then removed from apple watch in apple watch itself and,

Then install again on IPhone from apple store and install on apple watch

from apple store directly on the watch as well.

Open messenger on IPhone first and then on apple watch.

This has worked for me.

I have Apple Watch Series 5 and iPhone X, but it seems that the issue is caused by the latest update of Messenger for iOS, regardless of the Watch and iPhone model you use. I've called Polish Apple support today to ask if they know something about. They've already had one other request to look into this issue and it seems the problem is the app itself, not Apple software. For example, I use an app called Telegram. It works on the same principle and there's no logging/pairing issues. To sum up, it seems we have to wait patiently for Facebook to graciously clean their mess.

I have just messed around with this for ages! So frustrating! I took the app off my phone and watch re-installed on both. Opened the app on my phone but didn’t click continue just left that screen on then opened on the watch and asked to allow notification click don’t allow on the watch then go back to the phone and click continue onto your profile then it popped up! I tried all the other steps several times and this was the only one that worked. Hope it works for you to :)

The problem will however return as soon as the iPhone app requests the mobile phone number (which, by the way is bugged, as it’s has mine already for years) this screen is what generates the bug. To fix simply switch accounts (this will trigger the reload on watch but with other account then delete from messenger your original account in switch account view and then log back in recreating that account, it will work for a few hours before the problem returns, this is 100% a bug and it needs to be fixed by Facebook. It is not an Apple bug it’s a bug between the watch and iPhone app. Perhaps Facebook are working on an independent version of Messenger that no longer relies on a connection with the phone. Who knows!

Uninstall messenger from iphone

reinstall on iphone

reinstall on apple watch

open app on watch -it will say to login on phone

login on phone-watch will automatically show messages

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT- do not close out the app on phone. It needs to be open all the time, or else you will again get the message to login from phone , and you will have to uninstall and reinstall again .

  1. delete messenger from phone and whatch
  2. download messenger in phone.
  3. turn moble data off and on in settings under Messenger.
  4. restart iphone
  5. download messenger in whatch
  6. log out of facebook in phone
  7. log in messenger in whatch
  8. log in messenger in phone with facebook loged out.

this worked in the last try, after doing this many times, but first try with “settings/Messenger/moble data off then on” and restart phone.
