“Log in from the paired iPhone” coming up on Facebook Messenger app on Apple Watch series 4

New Messenger update out today has also fixed the issue for me.

Hi, I followed the steps suggested by camelia225 (see above) and it worked, just keep in mind to manually log into your messenger account after you are prompted if the user is you, don’t just click on your username, instead click on log in as another user, type your email and password manually while your watch is nearby and it will be logged in as well. Hope this helps.

I deleted the iPhone app then reinstalled. When you log onto messenger try entering your mobile number and password not your email

New update today for messenger seems to fix the issue.

I was able to confirm that I am recovering with Messenger version 268.1.

I don‘t think it‘s on the Watch side. Messenger was showing this „Log in from the paired iPhone“ 4 or 5 days before I updated WatchOS. For me it occurred after Messenger update 266.0.

It appears to be related to when the iPhone app asks for cellphone number (which in my case, it actually already has) then this screen appears on the watch. It’s clearly a bug. It can be temporarily fixed as stated but the problem will creep back until the developers fix the bug

It's weird because after I did the watch OS update this happened to me, the mirror suddenly broke. I tried all these steps and it worked up until I set the watch on the charger. Then when I checked it again it wasn't synced anymore. These methods no longer worked after that too, then I tried doing the login swaps with FB accounts which worked but once again broke after I took it off my hand. I'm not sure what changes were made to Watch OS that causes this to happen but, since logging in and out of FB causes it to work. I'm quite certain this issue is on the Watch OS side of things...

This fixed it temporarily for me,

As soon as Messenger asked me to sync my phone contacts and I said no, the same issue happened.

I’ve done the update and it’s still not working

Edit turned phone off and it’s working now

Try updating Facebook app. There's been an update today. Or reinstall Messenger on your Watch.

Thank you this was very helpful and solved my problem! I just want to add to follow #7 carefully. I had to make sure I was LOGGED OUT of messenger to get it to work . It did not work the first time when I simply clicked on my name to install it on my phone and then installed it on my watch. Kudos to the person who fixed yet another apple flaw!
