I'm trying to use a third-party mechanical keyboard with my 2017 MacBook Pro, however the computer registers multiple inputs with some key presses e.g. the number 5 registers as 5a or a5.
I've looked around and most resources say this should be plug and play.

Indeed I contacted the manufacturer and this particular keyboard does not support macOS.
I'll better check next time.
I would contact the support for the people who make the keyboard.
Thank you for your reply, I forgot to mention I've tested this particular keyboard on a windows desktop without issues.
I've also tried it with my wife's MacBook Air and had the same issues.

Not weird at all.
That keyboard is producing double characters, but Windows does not detect them.
It will be plug and play with a Working keyboard.
Your keyboard does not appear to be working properly.
