Does FaceTime work between new iPads and older generation models?

I want to buy an inexpensive used iPad for my 98 yr old mom to use to FaceTime during Covid 19 lockdown. Are there limitations associated with FaceTime between older and newer models.?

It would depend on how old a unit so we would know what version of iOS it uses. If it is anything that can run an iOS higher than iOS 10, you should not have a problem. The only other issue is that Group FaceTime calls require iOS 12.1.4 or higher and specific devices. See the information here, Use Group FaceTime on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
