What does it mean when it shows my friend not sharing location but says online does it mean they are using their phone

Find my Iphone The other day my friend and I started sharing our locations with each other. I could see his and he could see mine. I opened the app this morning though and noticed that he was following me on find my iphone but I couldn't see his location anymore. Curious to see if he went out of his way to unfollow me. I went to imessages to see if there was that little grey text that says "xyz stopped sharing their location with you" but I didn't see anything... Thoughts?

Find My iPhone (No location found) So my friend shared his location with me in the Find My iPhone app. The Find My iPhone app on his phone does find his own location: Also the Find my iPhone app has been granted location access on his phone: However, when he shares his location with me I get a notification on my phone saying that his location can't be found: How can I resolve this?
