Messenger on Apple Watch “Log in from the paired iPhone”

I can’t get my Apple Watch to detect that I am logged in with my iPhone. I’ve reset both my phone and Apple Watch, deleted and reinstalled the app on both devices, and I’m not sure what else to try now. I’m wondering if this is an app issue or a device issue.
