Recently purchased a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Apple Car Play. I swore I wasn’t going to buy a new car unless it had Apple Car Play. Now I have resorted back to bluetooth connection because I keep missing text message alerts. I do not have DND selected and have tried the suggestions posted on many web sites. I do see the banner pop up when testing it but no audio alert.

Thank you for the update regarding your issue.
After connecting your iPhone with your car, under "settings" then "Bluetooth" then "Uconnect" then choosing "I" next to it, you can make sure "Show Notification" is turned ON.
If you have you iPhone model with Face ID feature you can make sure Attention Aware feature is turned OFF.

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Community! I see you are having an issue with having no audio alerts when receiving text messages in Car Play, it is important to be able to receive notifications as you prefer.
When using Car Play feature some of the alerts are silenced or limited automatically through Do Not Disturb feature.

Thanks for the response! Understand what you are saying but I am connecting via Lightning to USB so that the CarPLay works. I did what you described and when I connect the phone via bluetooth the notifications are announced on the infotainment system. However, still no audible sound when I use CarPlay. If someone calls I get the same ringer over the speakers as my phone. I starting to believe this is an issue with iOS 13 and Carplay. I send multiple texts to myself with another phone and you will see a notification bar pop up momentarily but not audible announcement.

Figured it out, you have to have the ring/silent switch on the side of the phone not in the mute position. I guess when you flip it to the silent position it mutes the imessage sound on carplay but not the phone ringer.
I made sure the do not disturb feature was turned off. I have even made sure I had the ringer volume adjusted high enough.
