screen cracked and always "busy" : fixable?

I assume replacing the screen on my GF's iphone 8 will not fix it as I cannot power it off or reset it. It just shows the busy circle and gets hot and I keep it in the icebox when it gets to hot. I assume the battery will eventually go dead. Any suggestions or experience?

[edit] not sure why windows is shown for this post. It is iphone 8 with latest ios. Crack is very faint but I can feel it with fingernail. almost didnt see the crack.
