Apple ID verification failed

I keep getting an error when trying to log into my Apple ID saying “verification failed, The application you have selected does not exist”

this is on my iPhone 8, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 2.

I'm also experiencing this today (June 2, 2020), but on a Mac.

Maybe some more detail that could help: this morning I got an error "Your Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons." Not entirely sure what happened, I went through the recommended steps and reset my password on a MacBook Pro (2019 - work laptop), and then logged in to AppleID/iCloud again. I repeated this on my iPhone XS successfully. I was also able to log in to my AppleTV successfully.

This evening, I opened up my MacBook Pro (2015 - personal laptop) and got prompted to log back in with Apple ID - not surprising. But I got the "The application you have selected does not exist" error repeatedly. I rebooted also. No luck.

Edit: There is indeed an issue ongoing - if you look at https://www.apple.com/ca/support/systemstatus/ - there is an outage listed:

iCloud Account & Sign In - Issue

Today, 5:16 PM - ongoing

(note that's EDT, so the issue was known almost 2hrs prior to the original post, and almost 3hrs from now.

Definitely me too. iPad 11 pro max and iPad Air 3. They are different software versions and it worked before, so it isn’t a software problem.

There is a current iCloud sign in issue, which could be related. But they should really put a yellow status on Apple Pay.

if they’re going to promote these services, they need to have minimal downtime. And own up to it and fix it.

I am having the same issue. I can't download or update apps, and I can't make purchases until I "Sign in to update your Apple ID preferences." But whenever I try to sign in, it tells me it failed and that "This application you have selected does not exist." I tried changing my password twice, thinking it had been compromised, and I tried on both my iPhone and my MacBook Air. I also tried restarting both devices, with nothing I've tried working. I have been on hold with Apple support for over 10 minutes now, even though it said the waitlist was less than 10 minutes, so I'm assuming it's a new issue that everyone is having.

No, it isn't that. It only says we need to sign into our Apple ID so that the settings and preferences can be updated, but it won't let us. it keeps saying failed because "This application you have selected is not available." I was on hold with Apple support for over 20 minutes, then the robot said "we can provide you service right now, try again in 15 minutes" and hung up on me.

I figured it out ,, this worked for me so if it doesn’t for you I’m sorry man I tried.. ,, okay step 1: reset password

step 2: make the notification come back saying “verification failed”.

step 3: enter in your old password ,, then once it says error wrong password or whatever ,, type in your new password the 2nd time it asks you and it could work. That’s what worked for me on my iPad Pro and iPhone 11

I faced a similar issue with an iPhone 7, iPad Air 3 and a Macbook Air. Resetting the password didn't help but we signed out of the app store on one of devices and signed back in and it asked for a verification code on the other two devices. Once we put the verification code in, we didn't have this problem anymore. It was just asking for some sort of two-factor verification.

Also: we tried resetting the password but that didn't work for us so that's why we ended up doing this.
