Apple ID verification failed
I keep getting an error when trying to log into my Apple ID saying “verification failed, The application you have selected does not exist”
this is on my iPhone 8, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 2.

I'm also experiencing this today (June 2, 2020), but on a Mac.
Maybe some more detail that could help: this morning I got an error "Your Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons." Not entirely sure what happened, I went through the recommended steps and reset my password on a MacBook Pro (2019 - work laptop), and then logged in to AppleID/iCloud again. I repeated this on my iPhone XS successfully. I was also able to log in to my AppleTV successfully.
This evening, I opened up my MacBook Pro (2015 - personal laptop) and got prompted to log back in with Apple ID - not surprising. But I got the "The application you have selected does not exist" error repeatedly. I rebooted also. No luck.

(note that's EDT, so the issue was known almost 2hrs prior to the original post, and almost 3hrs from now.
After updating my iphone to 13.5.1 this issue was resolved
Work at a phone store and just attempted to help a customer with this same issue. Tried signing into appleid.apple.com with their info and it immediately signed back out. Signed in with my info, which hasn't been on an Apple device in 3 years, and same thing happened. While their server status link says that their servers are up, Apple just seems to be having some weird sign-in issue. I would just give it time to sort itself out.
Our voices are united in this moment, haha. My advice to anyone reading this would be to wait things out for an hour or two.
Their server is down just try again in like an hour.
So someone earlier posted the server status and seems like there is a bug or issue now, so apple should be right on it to fix it.

I had the same problem
it’s because your IOS needs to be updated
and if you have it on automatic it hasn’t done the update yet
I just had the same problem. So I turned my Wifi off and on and if there was any other available one I switched it. Let me know if that works for you.
Check that IOS is version 13.5.1. I just updated and the problem went away.
I had an update that needed to be done. Never let me know though.
Apple push an update this week that resolve some security issues. In order to login to your iCloud account you need to update your devices to the latest version for iOS and MacOS.
Experiencing the same error on my iPhone XS and iPhone 6S. Restarted both devices but no change. Multiple apps are trying to log in with my Apple ID in the background and are unable to do so. Looks to be a server outage of some kind.
MacRumors reports iCloud is down.
I fix it by go to “find my phone” and turn off the share location, and type the Apple ID password again
