I use an external drive for Time Machine. It used to delete the oldest backup to make space for a new backup. In October 2019, it quit doing this and gave me a message that said "Backup Failed. There isn't enough space on 'My Passport for Mac'". How can I get Time Machine to delete the oldest backup and backup my computer again?

Have you run Disk First Aid on the backup drive?
Try manually remove the older ones within Time Machine, not the Finder.
There were only 3 backups I deleted two through Time Machine. This did not clear enough space so, I looked at the drive in Finder and found another folder for my previous mac. It does not show up in Time Machine. It seems like the last time that I deleted backup files through Finder (on yet another machine), it caused problems for backing up. So, I am not sure how to get to the old files through Time Machine.
Any luck?
Actually found the files but, can not delete them through Time Machine. It just hangs.
