HP Scan to Network Set Up (Catalina 10.15.5)

Hello,

I just purchased a HP OfficeJet Pro 9016 and I am unable to configure Scan to Network Folder on macOS Catalina 10.15.5 operating system. Both printer and operating system are up to date.

I have followed these instructions, but I haven't been able to figure out my mistake.

Using smb://macbook-air.fios-router.home

  • When I use the path \\macbook-air.fios-router.home\ScanToFolder with my credentials exactly as displayed on my user, and I get the following error: Incorrect credentials. Check your username/password and try again.
  • Same path but I do not use credentials, I get the error: The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again

Using IP.

  • When I use the path \\###.###.#.###\ScanToFolder (IP exactly copied off Network Summary @ EWS), I get this error: The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again.
  • Again, same path but no credentials: The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again.

I have a wireless connection.

I made sure the time in my printer and MacBook match.

I made sure all users have Read & Write access.

I attempted uninstalling printer and HP Smart.

I even tried from my iMac, and I get same error.

"Share files and folders using SMB" is checked

I made sure the share folder (Users>Shared) has Read & Access too. Shared folder, ScanToFolder, is located under Users>Shared.

I know this has been asked several times, and I attempted all other solutions but they have not worked for me. I did contact HP and they told me to go to Apple.

I highly appreciate your help!

Hey there ollitsacairam,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re having issues using your scanner with your Mac running macOS Catalina. I’ll be happy to help with this.

It sounds like you’ve done some thorough troubleshooting on this issue. You mentioned this happened on your iMac as well and I wanted to verify if you had set up your scanner with this computer prior to this issue.

Just to be sure, test this issue out in safe mode and a new user account. This can help you further identify what’s causing the issue and bring you closer to a resolution:

How to use safe mode on your Mac

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

When you set it up in a new user account, make sure you’re following the steps in these links:

Set up a scanner to use with Mac

Scan images or documents using your Mac

I hope this helps.

Take care.

Hi Jeremy,

I restarted on safe mode and created a new user named "HP". I followed the same steps, I got same error and the following message: The printer is unable to connect to the remote destination. Check your configurations and try again.

Just to clarify, I am able to use the scanner. I just want to set up a scan network folder.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Hey ollitsacairam,

Thanks for trying setting up the scan network folder in safe mode and a new user account. If the steps from HP did not work in either of those scenarios, you may want to reach out to their support team and let them know:

You could also reach out to Apple Support to look further into this with you as well. You can look at the different contact options for them here:
