2 of my Mac mini USB ports disabled

After connecting my old iMac to my Mac mini using firewire with a firewire-USB adaptor, by usb port was disabled - drawing too much power. I tried both one USB and one Thunderbolt 3 port. I gave up on connecting the iMac, unplugged it. Both ports are now inactivated. How to reactivate them? I reset SMC and PRAM, rebooted, unplugged the mini. All to no avail. Any other suggestions on how to fix this?

Try the SMC reset again, only this time leave the power cord disconnected for 5+ minutes. It also might help if you press the power button a time or two while the cord is removed to drain all residual power and allow the port overload protection to reset.

If that doesn't help, then you need to contact your local Apple Authorized Service Provider and have then look at it.
