Macbook Air 2020 - Not Charging When Connected

Hi! I just got a brand new Macbook Air 2020 and I connected it to the wall today and the charging icon displays but when I click on that it says "Connected but not charging" or something to that effect. Is this part of the new battery saving dealie or is something wrong? I've tried two different 30W chargers in the wall and received the same message upon connecting both. Thank you for your help!

There is no optimizing battery life as such, not any more so than it's ever been. What you're experiencing (not charging at all) simply isn't normal.

It might be related to the charging cable itself, which also deserves scrutiny: Find the right power adapter and cable for your Mac notebook explains the USB-C cable can limit charging or even prohibit it altogether. Read the entire passage under Make sure you're using the correct USB-C charge cable.
