volume problems

Hi, I'm having a problem with volume. it is very low and i can`t pull it up. or I don't know how. Of course I tried from the system preferences, but no chance. with headphones it is ok. problems are the little boxes next to the keyboard

Try the following in order as needed:


1 - boot into Safe Mode (How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support) by booting with the Shift key held down and check there to see if the problem persists.  Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing some system cache cleaning, volume verifying and directory repairing. 

2 - Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
