iOS 13.5.1 battery drain

The battery drain from background activity in iOS 13.5.1 is horrible. Happens on several apps, currently Bloom berg and Teamsnap. Same problem on my iPad and my wife's iPhone Xs. Come on Apple, this needs to be fix now!

in that case it is apps that have not been modified to run on the new OS and have runaway background usage, Viber fir example.

or a busted phone.

Nothing in 13.5.1 itself is causing this.

So to test this ( yes effort required)

  • backup
  • restore to factory settings as though you were selling it - see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351
  • Set it up with your apple account
  • Check battery usage in that vanilla environment.
  • Restore from backup.

Maybe, I better let it down to create a new topic, because there's no point.

Past night, I didn't connect my iPhone to a charger. Went from 60% till 56% (11PM till 8AM), so still the normal behavior.

(forced closed all apps before I went to bed yesterday)

This morning opened my phone and saw a more heavy battery drain. Although I didn't used any app since last night, a random background activity has started again. Apps who never did it before.

pfff, charging this phone everyday and waiting on 13.6.

It will be available by the end of june, beginning of july. Today they speak about the end of July, beginning of august.

I'm beginning to be dispirited in this matter.

What standpoint does Apple take on all the unnecessary charge cycles and battery "wear" that this update is forcing users to go through? I wonder because now my iPhone X battery wear has decreased FIVE percent in the last two weeks alone after this update through no abnormal charging activity on my part, rather, I am forced to due to the update draining the battery so quickly.

Good feedback.

Just putting it out there if Camera has Live Photos on (default?) and open, then it is continually taking video waiting for you to hit the take button. That has the potential to use battery surely, especially in situations where background activity seems to have carte blanche.

What genius invented a camera that takes photos just before you press the button?? Who needed it?

Used to do all my updates and backups with my mac (like you recommend), now with this new update, in addition to the fast battery drain, I am dealing with what is now an unsyncable iphone that is working erratically, doing a strange white horizontal line during a soft reset and generally proving itself unreliable! Also, being old school, background refresh was off, don't use icloud, Siri off and privacy settings off except for a map program and Findmyphone, so what is using all the juice?

My case is specially extrange... I updated to 13.5.1 and had no issues... several days with all perfect and OK, as usual. But just yesterday, it started to get extremely hot an drain battery. And to have extremely slow response to volume buttons (I press up or down and it can show the volume bar after 5 seconds... 10 seconds... or 1 minute after, when you even remember that you pressed it). And other extranges behaviours... Switch off wifi and wifi icon still on... cycle between "blocked SIM - No service - Pepephone (my operator)". 4G to 3G... horrible and with no cause at all.

Well, some days ago, for first time in my live, I turned on automatic update of apps. Perhaps one app than manually I don't use to update (because of "dozens" of apps asking for update and I use to manually update the more used ones) have caused all this... I don't know... I will try to restore but as I read here, this won't fix it :-(

We'll have to wait for a new update...

Terrible battery life after 13.5 on iPhone XR. Phone bottom overheats, doing a Viber video call makes it uncomfortable to touch, playing a YouTube video makes the battery die in 3hrs.

things get a bit better if I use battery saver but still the battery is nowhere where it used to.

I charge al day long else I have no phone !!

this has been going for months

My iPhone 7 battery goes from 100 percent charged to 55 percent or 60 percent in the morning even when I switch off the phone at night after charging fully.

Factory restore, managing notifications, putting off background refresh and also managing location services did not help at all.

And iPhone 7 is only 8 months old. Battery has a maximum performance capacity of 100 percent.

Still the battery discharges by almost 50 percent while switched off overnight. During day time also phone remains warm and drains battery in similar manner.
