iOS 13.5.1 battery drain

The battery drain from background activity in iOS 13.5.1 is horrible. Happens on several apps, currently Bloom berg and Teamsnap. Same problem on my iPad and my wife's iPhone Xs. Come on Apple, this needs to be fix now!

in that case it is apps that have not been modified to run on the new OS and have runaway background usage, Viber fir example.

or a busted phone.

Nothing in 13.5.1 itself is causing this.

So to test this ( yes effort required)

  • backup
  • restore to factory settings as though you were selling it - see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201351
  • Set it up with your apple account
  • Check battery usage in that vanilla environment.
  • Restore from backup.

I was looking for help. I haven’t done university computer programming since the late ‘80s; as such, I am not remotely qualified to offer suggestions: other than communicate to Apple that this is real situation and it needs to be fixed in a patch ASAP. Especially for those of us that have the dramatically affected 6s or SE. A security upgrade that renders one’s phone obsolete, if left unfixed, is a form of business blackmail.

So...: I uninstalled the music app and lost a bunch of music. Had to agree to Apple Music subscription in order to retrieve my lost music!! The issue is still not fixed after reinstalling the music app!!! Is this Apple’s new schtick?! Is this how they are getting people to subscribe to the Apple Music? APPLE FIX THIS ISSUE! I was in a work call and my battery drained to 20% after being fully charged! I’m about to get a Samsung Galaxy!!!!!

I want to have a mobile device and not a wired phone. This at least I am sure I will since most of my friends already enjoy battery life of 1-2 days without issues on every update they get.

What is the use of a fast car if you don’t have gas? Apple has chronically shown that issues like battery, connectivity and other very basic functions suffer.

i have also tried to reach to their famous support hitting up to a wall on every occasion. It’s really disappointing, really disappointing to be told “nah it’s all in your head, my diagnostics says it’s fine”.

NO Apple, it’s not fine. It’s not fine at all.

"...If you think that a Samsung and specially a huawei will be better you will be greatly disappointed. .."

Yep, lost count if the times I used to reset my Samsungs to factory to clear up some glitch.

Trying to stop Google putting all the **** back again automatically was also hit and miss.

Huawei with no Play Store must be a poor experience too

I had to make a video of how enjoyable an 8m old iPhone XR is. A video is always better than words right?

84% to 81% doing nothing at all, gone in 5 minutes !!!

this exact device, Apple “support” declared in good and normal condition.

All correspondence and proof of what happened readily available :)

oh yes; Samsung and Huawei wouldn’t declare this a good or normal performance.

What is not understood on the below phrase?

i have been using max brightness to all of my iPhones including this one forever. It worked perfectly well.

in addition the next video that will follow up just to get rid of this canned response once and for all is to put another Xr side by side and compare this behavior.

In addition there is NO device out in the market that would drain 3% in just 5 minutes no matter the brightness setting. That would be a joke. You can test on your own iPhone and see how it does.

in the mean time, the device is also hot on 80% brightness and while charging as well.

I also have this problem since the upgrade to iOS 12.4.7 (the most actual for my iP6). I tested it today closed all Apps and disabled the sleep mode. Background light was low and after about two hours the battery was nearly empty. The phone is getting really warm. Too expensive gadget to keep my coffee fresh ;-)

In my case it's always the AppStore which drains my battery. But after reading several posts it seems that's a bug in processing the background tasks. Please fix that asap because the iPhone is a mobile device ;-)

Cheers, Stephan

"You already have a chinese device." - Is that your 'informed' statement or just a wild guess? I don't use a chinese device and if it was then I won't be showing up on the community page here with an iPhone!

Yes the iOS upgrade is a push upgrade. Not sure how you get your upgrades but usually that's how they come.

I don't have the Apple Music App. Had deleted it long time ago. Neither do I have any 'rogue' apps because all apps are showing normal usage. Nothing out of the blue. In fact the apps I have are very low in number because this is an official device and therefore we don't put any apps more than what are needed (productivity apps like MS etc.)

Backup and restore has nothing to do with it. This is a server side change from Apple and they need to fix it. Like the hundreds of people on here have stated, this is a pure upgrade related issue. Globally iPhones and iPads don't go on a blink if it's a local device issue!

If you spend £1000+ on a phone, it is expected to retain all of its original functionality rather than have to resort to turning things off.

Precisely the point!

We pay a premium for Apple not just because the devices are supposed to look good but more importantly need to function good as well!

Just hope Apple is actually looking into what it's users are saying and fixes these issues.
