Microsoft programs

My Mac computer updated into MacOS Catalina and now I cannot access my old files on Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook, Messenger, Document Connection and Desktop Connection. How do I retrieve those old files and get all of those programs to work again. They are currently listed on the bottom bar but each have a round white circle with a line through them. What do I need to do? Thank you for your help.

Those Microsoft programs on your Mac are 32-Bit apps. That is what is indicated by that white circle with a line through it. macOS Catalina does not run any 32-Bit apps unlike the past macOS. Catalina only runs 64-bit architecture apps.

You will need to get with Microsoft and get 64-Bit versions of those programs that you have to run with macOS Catalina.

When you state that you added in Excel, did you download and install Excel again and you were able to run Excel again? What about MS Word and MS Powerpoint?

I understand that you are having difficulty finding your excel documents on your MacBook Pro. If you know the title of the excel files then you can search for them using Finder. Here is How-

1) On your Desktop, at the top right, is an icon that looks like a Hard Drive and probably titles as Macintosh HD. Double click on it so that it displays the contents.

2) In the window that opens and in the SEARCH section type in the name of the Excel file that you are looking for and hit Return.

3) That action will find the file on your drive and you can double click on it so that it opens in Excel.
