iTunes Volume too low

When playing my iTunes library, the volume is about half the volume it should be. I've checked everything, and it's set to max.

In contrast You Tube is as loud as it should be. I'm using a 2015 Macbook Air on Catalina. Everything was fine until today. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but have just got a Facebook Portal, but it's disconnected from the Mac.

Hello Sophe.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. If I'm understanding correctly, the volume on your MacBook Air is lower than usual. I will be glad to assist. I would start up in safe mode to see if there is any change:

Additionally, test in another user account to further isolate this:

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Thank you, that sorted it out for me. What a weird thing to happen. Do you have any idea as to what caused it? The only thing different I did was pair my mac with a Facebook Portal so that I could play my iTunes through it. It worked with no probs, but when I used it again the next day after it was quiet, as was playing it through my paired Alexa or just through my Mac.
