Macbook Pro to iMac Camera Question

I have an iMac that I use as a secondary monitory right now for my MacBook Pro. iMac is connected with a thunderbolt adapter and I recently got a USB connection between the two.

Is there a way for my MacBook Pro to recognize and use the isight camera that is on the iMac?

As I am using the iMac as the main monitor I would prefer to use the camera on it, rather than the one that is on my MacBook Pro to the right of me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Good Question. Unfortunately the answer is No.

Note: Target Display Mode isn’t supported on iMac models with Retina display. Only iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), and iMac (Mid 2011 to Mid 2014) support Target Display Mode.

I am sure that your iMac falls into the category mentioned above to be able to use the Target Display Mode with your MacBook Pro. With your configuration, you will not be able to access and use the camera on your iMac.

Thanks Axel. My iMac is indeed a mid-2011 version. as some TV's with cameras could be used instead of the MacBook Pro isight camera, I was hoping this one would be able to be used similarly with a USB connection.

Bit of a disappointment but the target display mode has come in very handy recently. Is there no way to grand permission for one computer to access potential accessories of another computer? i.e. DVD, iSight, USBs, etc.
