iCloud photos have disappeared.

I’m wondering if anyone can help please?

My partner had an iPhone XS, which she backed up regularly, then it broke. And she’s got an iPhone 6s for now, it was unable to restore the iPhone 6s from the most recent back up so we used an old one. BUT when we’ve logged into her iCloud tonight there’s only photos showing from the time she’s had the iPhone 6s and all other images have gone.... are they gone forever or is there something we can do to retrieve them? Thanks in advance.

When you logged into her iCloud.com account (logged in via a browser), were all the photos missing? Did you check the Recently Deleted folder as well?

If you're using iCloud Photos, they're technically not considered part of a backup.

What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support.
