Installation error message: The recovery server could not be contacted

Hello,

I know this question has been asked a lot but I still have this issue.

I am trying to update my macOS from Sierra to Mojave.

I followed every step carefully from apple and downloaded Mojave here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210190

I have a very good connection internet this is not the issue. My time and date are also good. I did a reboot holding option, I tried all this none of this works, I still have the same error message when trying multiple time to Install macOS Mojave: The recovery server could not be contacted.

Anyone know how I can resolve this issue? thanks!!

All of the steps above has been done and a lot more, I was able to speak with 4 members of Apple support and 1 senior apple support agent and none of them could help resolve my issue, I literally spent a full day on the phone with them.

Anyway, I resolve the issue myself downloading the full file of Mojave from another site which is around 7GB and installed it directly to my computer and installed it from there and it worked like a charm without even having to make a bootable install on a flash drive.

It seems like the issue was related to an internet authentification from my macbook with the 22mb installer files from Apple in the app store (it did the same with High Sierra too) weird.

Hi e0828,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today. It sounds like you are trying to install macOS Mojave from Recovery.

If you followed the Mojave page and downloaded Mojave from the Mac App Store, going into Recovery shouldn't be required to upgrade. Check out: How to update the software on your Mac and see "How to get updates for earlier macOS versions".

It does sound like your Mac would run Catalina. You can install it from the Mac App Store or if you start up in Recovery it could be installed: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery. You would need to hold the keys Option-⌘-R to "Upgrade to the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac."

If you do still want Mojave and have issues installing, you can try installing from another user account's Mac App Store: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac.

Have a fantastic day!
