iTunes keeps asking to verify payment information

I am using 9.2.1 (although this problem started with iTunes 9.2 sometime) and iTunes keeps asking me to verify my payment information whether I am using my iPhone, iPad or my iMac. I verify and the transaction goes ahead. It does not matter whether it is a free update for an App on my iPad or iPhone or purchasing music or a TV Show on my iMac. The error message is that a transaction has taken place on a new device or computer and that it needs to verify my payment information.

The verification lists my card data and address etc. correctly but I need to keep entering the card security number.

Support keep telling me to delete and re-enter my car info which does not help. Anyone else seen this issue?

Seems to be something to do with a new security check they have put in the system that does not work correctly and support is totally incapable of helping me out.

SOLUTION FOR BILLING PROBLEM:

I found this hidden in a previous post, and it worked, very simple!

The problem is that Apple is not looking at the change in your record. Go to your Info section where it askes for your card, and leave selection as "None" (if redeem your iTunes cards first, you should see your positive balance).

Then just change one little thing, like add Mr. as a sulutation (that's all I did), or delete the salutation or delete and retype your first name, or whatever. This "changes" the record, so when you submit it again, the Apple server is forced to re-examine it. Solved the problem for me...Apple has "None" as credit card on file, and I only use iTunes cards to buy stuff. I only do this so I don't accidentally spend more than $XX, and for the security of keeping card number off of another server.

GOOD LUCK, let me know if it works, and copy past this repost when you see the problem to help someone else.

Iv always hated apple, but decided to buy a iPhone 4s, I've had it two days now, been downloading free apps just fine, but now it won't let me, judging by everyone else's posts, it's happening a lot with no explanation, the only thing I can think of that's wrong is I downloaded a paid app, but didn't hav enough credit so it accepted it anyway and downloaded but since I still owe on this app it won't let me download anymore, so I'm hoping when I get paid that this is the problem, seems odd to want your credit details for a free app, and its never asked for my credit details before for a free app, I will post back if it sorts itself out, otherwise I may be tempted to return this phone back to the store

Ok I've just read that to download free apps, u need a credit card on file, strange why, I rechecked all my info a lot of times, it was all correct, but have just noticed that under your billing address, there's two lines for st, I left the 2nd line blank, but this time I decided to add the word street, and now I get a different error message, this time saying unavailable funds, which is correct, so maybe I do owe them money

Well I solved my problem, I went online, I clicked to view my account, payment info, there's a notice in red writing saying, The billing of a previous purchase has failed because your credit card was declined, please provide valid credit card details and click done to pay your outstanding balance and continue using the store, So I'm sorry to waste your guys time

Wow, over 2 years, no solution. Of course I use PayPal, but after that $1 incident, I have not been able to

link iTunes w/ PayPal since, even if money was in the account. Today, I decided to Iink my credit card (In good standings) w/ iTunes. The next thing that happened was a miracle, the debt was cleared, my purchases began to download and my apps began to update! But when I went to edit my payment type to return it back to PayPal, it would not verify PayPal again, no matter how many agreements were made... I think they blocked your payment type after it's denied. Even by $1. Some changes need to be made...

I've had the same nightmare as many. I don't use a credit crd, only iTunes gift cards. Today all my devices would not let me buy anything even with over a hundred dollars credit.

I tried updating billing info, deleting and re-entering and rebooting and all that.

The final solution was to change my password on iTunes via my macbookpro making sure it had one capital letter and one number (my previous password had neither). I then updated all the other devices with that same password and my appleID.

Everything now works.

There was clearly something in the last software update that affected security, tightening up of password rules, but apple just never bothered to tell anyone of this issue.

I was having the same issue. It seemed to come about when I authorized my PC with my account. The credit card number on file was the one use to purchase the computer with, however, I have never bought anything in the iTunes Store using that card. I've always used gift cards. So, anyway, I tried to re-enter the security code to see if that would fix it. No such luck. So I called Apple, they walked me through changing the card information. Still no help. So the guy told me to use iTune's e-mail support. They got back to me within a few hours, and basically told me to do the same thing he did. Finally, I de-authorized all computers and re-authorized only my MacBook Pro. Then selected None in Payment Method. That worked, and now I'm sitting here, happily listening to my newly purchased Sonny & The Sandwitches EP. I hope maybe that will help some of you. I agree, Apple is a terror to deal with when you have any kind of issue.
