MacBook 2020 USB Mouse Stops working

I recently bought a new MacBook Pro 13 for my son. He likes a USB wired mouse which is plugged into an Apple USB -C adapter along with an external monitor HDMI. The mouse stops working after a while (no specific time) and the only way to get the computer to recognize the mouse is to restart the computer. The external monitor continues to work but the mouse is not recognized.

Any help to fix this issue? is it hardware? Software?

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

Hello MacBook2020Help,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that when your son uses a wired mouse connected to a MacBook Pro via a USB-C adapter, the mouse randomly quits working. The connected external monitor however does continue to work when this happens and the issue is resolved by restarting the Mac. You've come to the right place for help.

I'd like to start by having you try the suggestions outlined under the "Solutions" section in the following support article:

If a Mac accessory needs more power or is using too much power - Apple Support

Be sure to test after following this suggestion in particular:

  • "If your Mac has multiple Thunderbolt 3 ports, connect your device to a Thunderbolt 3 port farthest away from the current port. For example, if your device is connected to the ports on the left side of MacBook Pro, connect to the Thunderbolt 3 ports on the right side."

If you're still experiencing the issue, here are some steps to take next:

If a USB device doesn’t work with Mac - Apple Support

Cheers!

I am having the exact same issue but this also happened to me on a 2020 Macbook Air as well as a 2020 13" Macbook Pro (4 Thunderbolt Port model). The USB-C adapter, although from the same brand (Satechi), was a different model for each of the machines. Besides this, I had different devices connected to the hub in both cases and I had only 1 bus powered device connected in each case (a Samsung T5 SSD). Please note that the only thing that stopped working was the mouse, all the other stuff that was connected (the Air had fewer than the Pro) did not stop working nor had any performance degradations.

LE: It seems that changing the port fixes the issue, at least temporarily. On the Pro I had the power connected to the upper left port and the adapter to the lower left port and I switched them up (same side).

To me this looks like either a software issue or something related to (some of) the Satechi hubs.
