Windows 10 2004 outlook icloud problem and follow-up impact

Apologies for what may be a lengthy post but it is important to set the context behind my question.

Yesterday, I upgraded my laptop from Windows 10 1909 to Windows 10 2004. Prior to the upgrade, icloud sync to Outlook for calendar and contacts was working perfectly. After the upgrade, icloud was no longer working with outlook (when accessing calendar in outlook, it came up with the dreaded folders are missing message). In line with similar Win 10 upgrade issues in the past, I followed the following steps:

  • Backup up my Outlook .PST files
  • Uninstalled iCloud
  • Restarted the PC
  • Re-Installed iCloud
  • Re-Started the PC
  • Signed back in to iCloud
  • Ticked the box in iCloud settings for Outlook files
  • Clicked Apply

Unlike any previous occasion, I then got an error message stating that an error was present with Icloud Outlook App and to run a repair on that. On closer examination, the new installation of iCloud from the Microsoft Store had created two apps (iCloud and iCloud Outlook) rather than the one iCloud program that was previously on the PC)

I followed the error message advice and repaired iCloud Outlook via Windows App Settings but the error kept repeating. From the various forums, it appears that the Windows 10 2004 can break the Sync settings. One piece of advice I found on the web looked promising:

Fortunately, the laptop had set a restore point just after the 2004 upgrade on account of another App I had had to repair. I restored the PC back to that point which removed the newer versions of iCloud and put me back to the older version. Since the calendar folders were still not showing in Outlook, I ran a repair on the earlier version of iCloud, signed back in and was able to sync the calendars perfectly. Outlook was now running as it should again.

However, I now get the following error message whenever the laptop is started and occasionally thereafter.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Due to the problems with Win 10 2004, I am very conscious that if I install the newer version of iCloud from the Microsoft store, I will be back to square one with the "repair error" that blighted me after I installed it following the Win 10 2004 upgrade process. I would like to run with the older version of icloud until either Microsoft or Apple have fixed whatever is causing the syncing issues with the 2004 upgrade.

Many thanks!
