The same thing happened with my 8 plus. I finally got in touch with a real Apple expert. After running remote testing, one test came back as a failure which was Presence Test Baseband. I have no idea what that means, but my expert did. Instead of dismissing me like everyone else as being unwilling to accept a hardware problem, she took me at my word that it was software related. After being told not to do a full erase/restore by the other Apple techs because it might make things worse, this one said to do it. I erased everything back to brand new, but did not restore it from icloud immediately because that could have brought back the bad update. We verified that the phone was working without restoring anything. Then we did a second full restore from the icloud backup and this time the update installed correctly.

Steps taken:

  1. Back-up phone to icloud or computer.
  2. Erase without restore, verify that phone and texting works. Your mobile provider should now show in upper left corner.
  3. Erase again but this time restore from icloud to get back your contacts, apps, etc.

I hope this works for everyone else. They all told me it was a hardware issue and I would have to pay to have it fixed or buy a new phone. They were wrong.

Gee, Lawrence I wonder if you *really* think I haven't checked that my iPhone 7 wouldn’t be part of that problem. But wait, I’m UK based, those dodgy phones were sold in China , Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, and the U.S. and my phone’s model number doesn’t match. Sorry for the sarcasm but I have also *obviously* tried the other link to get the phone to work.

What brought it back from being a brick was plugging it into my Mac, backing it up, holding the relevant buttons down and erasing it and restoring it

Apple’s Genius tells me that I could get the phone “repaired” for £300+ as it’s “out of warranty” (it’s 30 months old).

Meanwhile, it continues to be flaky and crashes a few times a day, although not yet today.

Given that it all hinges on applying update 13.5.1 and involves models other than 7, it is Apples fault.

I personally updated a model 8plus to 13.5.1 and on completion had No Service. I then had the wherewithal to back it up, format and restore. Since then it is working perfectly. So the install faltered and my experience was not unique. How many people don’t have that capability and are shelling out Bucks to replace or get their phone fixed for no good reason.

I had the exact same issue...

I have an iPhone 7....my phone updated to iOS 13.5.1

Afterwards:

...'No Service' from my service provider. I was unable to make/receive calls, texts, or cellular data. I was only able to connect to WiFi.

I resolved my issue by resetting my network settings:

  1. Settings > General > Reset (at the bottom)
  2. Reset Network Settings

After I reset the network settings, the phone rebooted and when it came back up, the top left corner now said..... "Searching"

It didn't come up right away so I reconnected to my WiFi.

When I established connectivity with my WiFi, my cellular information kicked in.

I have no idea why it came up only after I reconnected to WiFi, but I'm not complaining.

Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I powered my phone off then back on......Service Provider information is still there.

Hope this helps

ok my iphone X has miraculously started working again.... I now have cellualar service back. What seems to fix it for me is taking the SIM out and leaving the phone for a few hours. I did this to get my old iphone 6 up and running again so that I had a working phone (with the same SIM). Then some hours later.... I try the same SIM back in my X and it seems to rectify the "No Service" issue. very strange. Spent approx 2 hours on the phone to Apple this morning and got absolutely no ware! Passed from person to person.

Just had an email from Apple promoting the iOS 14 !!! Not sure when it's coming out and not sure I want to risk it again after the trouble 13.5.1 has caused me and so many others around the world! Or is this the update fix as well?

Well some how my phone is working. I will list what I did but I am not sure what actually fixed it. (iphone 7 model A1778 not covered by the recall of a few years ago) Apple support said there was nothing further they could do. I could only enter DFU mode or set up as a new phone which left me with the message in the screen shot below.

I use Windows 10 and the current itunes to trouble shoot the phone. I switched to my daughters macbook and wet to a place with a proper highspeed (fiberOp). The phone was in DFU mode and the mac recognized it and downloaded 13.6. It went through the extraction and install and then gave an unable to update error. I unplugged the phone the plugged it back in to the mac, and after a few seconds I saw the install screen on the phone start. (apple logo with a thin progress line underneath) Then the phone went through a normal install as fresh phone. During the install I had an old sim card not linked to any account. Once the phone seemed normal I switched to a working sim and it found the carrier. As typical with apple, they either don't know or wont tell you what is actually wrong. If you are still under warranty you should be in luck .

I have the iPhone 7, too, and had just updated to 13.5.1 last night. I had this problem today. I tried everything people suggested. Finally I had to backup my phone to my computer (or use iCloud if you have the space), erase the phone, then restore from backup.

It worked! Took over 30 mins to restore the phone, but once it did, I have phone capability again and just had to reset a few of my security settings (finger ID, etc.)

*UPDATE - I spoke too soon. :-( I can now make calls, but I still cannot receive them! We use MetroPCS, so not sure if this is in relation to the T-Mobile issues right now or if it is a software issue related to 13.5.1.

Yep - I’m a Vodafone “customer”. Although the erase/restore

option got me back my iPhone 7 from being a brick it still crashes back to No Service several times a day.

Steps I take are:

— Flight mode

— Turn off iPhone 7

— Turn on iPhone 7

— turn flight mode off.

if that fails, try turning Location off.

then repeat above.

if that fails, try “reset network settings”. Then repeat above.

Yes, there is more than one cause of this symptom. For some iPhone 7 models there is a dormant hardware problem that an update (any update, not just 13.5.1) can trigger. For any other model with the problem there are basic troubleshooting steps that can fix it. This problem can occur at any time on any phone; it is probably coincidence that it happened after an update.

Once again. This is related to the update 13.5.1 and although the original post mentions "iPhone 7" (obviously it's the model they own) other models above and beyond experienced the same problem, when the same software upgrade 13.5.1, installed itself. Some have managed to overcome the fault with a complete backup, factory restore and reset as I have, and for some this didn't work. But many have shelled out bucks for service or replacement. This problem exists across the entire world and Apple need to release a fix asap.

Had to use “Lost mode” in find my iPhone on Sunday after loosing my iPhone X whilst MTBing. Someone found it and rang us, got the phone back quite quickly but then shortly later I had the dreaded “No service” again. I had this issue approx 4 weeks ago straight after the 13.5.1 update. Only backing up then restoring got it working again, I had to do this again yesterday to get the cellular service back!

Come on Apple!!

What is the issue here and why have you still not sent out an update to fix this problem that so many of us around the world are experiencing since the 13.5.1 update. It’s not just iPhone 7 users. If this happens once more I’m off to buy an android phone. It takes approx 6 hours for my phone to back up and do a restore and then put the back up back into the phone. Time I do not have spare!!!
