The same thing happened with my 8 plus. I finally got in touch with a real Apple expert. After running remote testing, one test came back as a failure which was Presence Test Baseband. I have no idea what that means, but my expert did. Instead of dismissing me like everyone else as being unwilling to accept a hardware problem, she took me at my word that it was software related. After being told not to do a full erase/restore by the other Apple techs because it might make things worse, this one said to do it. I erased everything back to brand new, but did not restore it from icloud immediately because that could have brought back the bad update. We verified that the phone was working without restoring anything. Then we did a second full restore from the icloud backup and this time the update installed correctly.

Steps taken:

  1. Back-up phone to icloud or computer.
  2. Erase without restore, verify that phone and texting works. Your mobile provider should now show in upper left corner.
  3. Erase again but this time restore from icloud to get back your contacts, apps, etc.

I hope this works for everyone else. They all told me it was a hardware issue and I would have to pay to have it fixed or buy a new phone. They were wrong.

I started having this same issue last night on my iPhone 11. I've spent 8 hours today trying to fix it with online support and then going to the Verizon store (i'm in Boston). I've reset network settings, factory reset it and now I've restored it twice from iTunes - NOTHING works. Seeing that this has been an issue for over three weeks based on these posts I don't understand how Apple hasn't pushed out an update by now. This is extremely frustrating on all accounts since both Verizon and Apple don't know how to fix it!

You seem to know a lot about the issues with iPhone 7’s. Mine is now completely dead not responding to anything Apple do. It is a different model to the link you used previously it’s A1778 assembled in China. Do you have any other links that include this model please. Or a link that relates to the dormant hardware issue. Anything that I can use against Apple to make them give me a new phone. As so far my only option is to purchase a new phone.

That's a bold claim that I'd be willing to wager you're unable to prove. Correlation does not equal causation and in general, software updates/enhancements do NOT cause hardware failure. At the end of the day, you're certainly entitled to believe but if you're going to be making claims like this publicly, you really should have something to back it up besides your feelings.

It's hardly a bold claim given apple's reputation for not addressing their mistakes until a critical mass of complaints is reached. I didn't say that I lost my car keys and now my phone doesn't work; that would be an example correlation doesn't equal causation, my phone was working a midnight, it did an update, then my phone wasn't working. I have not claimed that my phone had a hardware failure, in fact I am glad that pointed out that software doesn't cause hardware failure.

Of course I can't prove it, apple doesn't offer that kind of diagnostics and doesn't actually do board repair. I have to do my own research, reading apple developer forums to see what problems they are working on.

thank you for the scolding it was very helpful coming from a level 7.

Hi All,

I am writing to you from Chile and I have the same problem for approximately 5 days, after updating to 13.5.1 my iPhone Xs Max was left "No Service".

I have tried everything mentioned here but it has not worked for me.

I currently have a call with apple for more than 2 hours and they have been testing and executing the remote diagnosis, they still do not know what it can be.

I will let you know any news
