New Chrome Windows Getting Hidden by Default?

A common task for me is to pull a tab out of an existing window when I'm changing my focus at work. To do this I click on the tab's header, drag it out of the initial window and release it. This normally creates a new window containing only that tab.

For the last week or so, when I do this the tab seems to default to appearing minimized in the dock. It is really annoying as it initially was hard to identify what was going on and now adds extra steps to my daily life. This timeframe seems to correspond to the last software update to Catalina 10.15.5.

I've found the work around that if I hold the removed tab for 3 seconds after dragging it, that this won't happen. However, this is really annoying and is something I encounter dozens of times a day.

Does anyone know why this is happening now and how to stop it?

Hello, pottery_jones.

I understand that you are having some issues with the third-party web browser Google Chrome. I’m glad to help direct you to some helpful resources.

From an Apple standpoint, I would delete the application and reinstall it. How to delete apps on your Mac

If the doesn’t resolve the issue, I would look to Google for support. I’m linking their official support page as well as their user-supported forum below.
